Sun Web Server and open server can easily handle large volumes of traffic. It not only has Java application support built in, but it also has Fast CGI for PHP and other scripting languages. You can run any scripting language that Java supports, but also Fast CGI languages as well. With webdav built in, you can bypass having an ftp server. However, there is a feature missing in the webdav implementation which would be extremely useful for large scale web hosting, and that is the use of quotas. If you could set quotas for webdav users, you wouldn't need any other server for hosting. This would eliminate the need for ftp servers, Linux users, small disk file systems, and a whole host of complications traditionally used for web hosting. Hopefully, this feature will be supported in the future. I am not aware of an opensource Java ftp/webdav server that implements this feature. If you are please post a comment.
